I'll Be A Monkey's Uncle...NOT!

Well, actually I can't be a monkey's uncle because I am a woman...but all kidding aside...

On a serious note, I just read an article ( http://www.canada.com/national/story.html?id=6f9627aa-d6b5-4ddb-be99-dd95c5afd9bd) about how scientists are trying to decipher DNA from a chimpanzee, and claim that this animal is "the closest living relative to mankind." They are trying to find out what "makes" us human. This sort of thing just makes me shake my head and wonder when mankind will stop trying to find how we descended from these creatures and accept the truth! They, and others, need to wake up and smell the coffee!

What makes us human? I'll give you three guesses and the first two don't count. That's right, God makes us human! The book of Genesis in the Old Testament tells us this fact. In Genesis 1:24-25 we read:

"Then God said, 'Let the earth bring forth living creatures after their kind: cattle and creeping things and beasts of the earth after their kind'; and it was so. God made the beasts of the earth after their kind, and the cattle after their kind, and everything that creeps on the ground after its kind; and God saw that it was good."

Then, in a separate act of creativity we are told (verses 26-28) "Then God said, 'Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; and let them rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over the cattle and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth. God created man in His own image, in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. God blessed them; and God said to them, 'Be fruitful and multiply, and fill the earth, and subdue it; and rule over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the sky and over every living thing that moves on the earth.'"

Apes of any size, shape, and kind are not human. God did not create apes in His image and decid that He wasn't satisfied with them and allowed them to evolve...no, we read in verse 31 "God saw all that He had made, and behold, it was very good." If God was not satisfied with His creations, they would not have been 'very good'.

Now, I am not a scientific person but have read that DNA can NOT be changed from one thing to another. That is, the DNA for a rat will not be found in a dog. Human's have a specific DNA code as do all creatures. Darwin even apparently claimed before his death that his whole evolution theory was false. So, why do people today still try to claim it is truth?

This article states that humans "picked up" the traits such as walking erect and developing a complex language. Sorry, but we didn't pick up these things. We were CREATED this way. One of the scientists states that they "have the instruction book of our closest relative." Well, my closest relatives happen to be my parents and two brothers, not a bunch of chimps, so unless they've been testing my family without me knowing, they have NOT been testing my closest relative!

Please read the article at the above link, and let me know your views/thoughts on this.

I learned the science of creationishm at my evangelical high school, having just switched from a school where evolution was taught. And to me, creationism makes far more sense scientifically, besides it supporting my beliefs.

God created human beings in His image and likeness so I don't think humans and apes are the same...

pls...try to visit my site also...

I don't understand why people want to find a connection between us and apes... Really why would I want to be related to any animal that eats the lice off of it's friends body... We are obviously more sophisticated... we use shampoo and special combs when we discover a problem with lice ;-)
Thank you Shelley for a great post..scientific or not you have the facts right!!!

LOL Mission girl....I would NOT ever pick the lice off of my friends...NEVER!

We eat like a pig.
We like to play chicken.
You can get someone's goat.
We can be as slippery as a snake.
We get dog tired.
We can be as quiet as a mouse.
We can be as quick as a cat.

Some are as ugly as a toad.
We can be as gentle as a lamb.
Sometimes we are as happy as a lark.
Some of us drink like a fish.
We can be as proud as a peacock.
A few of us are as hairy as a gorilla.
You can get a frog in your throat.
We can be a lone wolf.

You are absolutely on the right track, DNA-wise.

"There's only a 10% difference between a chimp and a human." says the scientist.

Well la-dee-dah! That, my scientific friend is a DIFFERENCE, not a similarity.

My finger is only 10% different from my toe, but they are different!

Keep up the good work!

That's right! We are created In His Image and nothing else has that distinction. We have a soul--monkeys don't. :-)

It is truly sad when people try so hard to take all of the value out of who God really is. When those scientists stand at judgement in front of the one and only creator... aka... God... will they wonder why he does not walk on his knuckles?

"This sort of thing just makes me shake my head and wonder when mankind will stop trying to find how we descended from these creatures and accept the truth!"

For one thing, understanding how we are different from them can be used to isolate disease, and develop better medicines for all our benefit. I don't think that evolutionary biology is saying that there is no God, or that God did not play a part in creation. But it is very simple childish logic to say things like "God created humans in his image, so there is no way we came from apes" -- how do we know how God works? I think the way in which God did His work is fascinating science. Unfortunately, what "creation science" teaches is almost totally false.

I probably don't agree with much of your readers here, but please know that I, too, am a Christian, but I also believe that God's created universe is not described only in the Bible. The bigger revelation is in the actual creation itself. That's what science tries to explore, with great success.

Chris, thanks for visiting and leaving your comment. You are welcome to say your opinion, regardless of whether or not it agrees with the others. Thank you for sharing your views and I hope you'll comment on future posts as well...even if you don't agree :o)

Afterall...God did give us all our own opinions. There is noting wrong with speaking it either. You do make some valid points with yours as well.

Thanks, Shelley, I do like your blog and have linked you (if that's okay).

I've heard lots of opinions saying that animals don't have souls, and that's what distinguishes them from humans. I'm wondering where that comes from. I've always heard that they do, indeed, have souls, and will be in heaven. I wonder if anyone agrees with what these folks have to say about it: http://www.answers2prayer.org/bible_questions/Answers/animals/pets.html

I also think what a horrible place the Earth would be without all the animals. We depend on them for our very survival. Seems like some folks just want to place mankind so far above the animals that they're barely anything more than "biological machines" for our use and destruction (if we so choose). I'm not a animal rights activist/protester, but I do think that they, too, are worthy creations of God, and we should have some respect for them... even the chimps! :D
